In the conjunction of the Teacher’s day celebration. We would like to give our utmost appreciation to our previous teachers and to all teachers in Brunei Darussalam for giving and showing us the right path and, in sacrificing their time and efforts to teach us to be a better person today. We cannot thank those teachers enough who have taught us before. Nevertheless, may Allah bless all teachers in Brunei Darussalam to be in a good health and happiness with their loved ones. In behalf of the team, we would like to voice out to all teachers throughout the country a Happy 27th Teachers’ Day!
In Wunder Lifestyle first trip, we went to Selirong Island Forest Recreational Park in the Temburong District just 45 minutes away from boat ride from the capital of Bandar Seri Begawan. This island located on the northern tip of the district lies 25km consist of mangrove forested island with 3km walks (If you in need of a toilet, they provided such facilities along the pathway). Just for educational facts, the mangrove of this island is fondly known for its clear water.
The idea of this trip is to fully experience what the destination is all about and why was this tourism place has been forgotten by most of the people despite it located in the same district as the leading tourism park, Ulu Temburong National Park. In order to fully understand the question of why, we decided to spontaneously went there and involve ourselves with nature, Go Green!! We believe most of the people still haven’t acknowledged the full potential of this tiny island. What has been stated on social media are mostly to see Proboscis Monkey, Fish Skipper and Flying lemur (FYI if you don’t know what it is google it). The island is more than just to see the wildlife but it can also be a gateway for the urban dweller to experience first-hand green scenery. But during our visit, unfortunately, we weren’t able to experience the full potential of what it has to offer mainly, due to the high tight (be warn! it is recommended to visit Selirong Island only during low tide and we would suggest seeking advice from the local tour operator).
On the bright side, we are able to experience the long walk through the mangrove forest while relieving ourselves from urban life, while taking pictures and videos of the surrounding and feed ourselves with extra knowledge of the benefits of this mangrove. Whereby, it acts as a control mechanism of the tide on the coastal area and reduce erosion by cleaning the water quality as well the house to those small fishes and food resources for animals as mentioned above! Lastly, it is highly be recommended to visit this exotic island only in the morning and go through the local tour operator, they will arrange the trip on your behalf such as the boat ride and give briefing concerning the trip.
We would like to thank Firdaus Ismail from Green Brunei for giving us this opportunity to tag along with their trip. We had a wonderful time with him and chit-chat along the 3km walk and lunch together afterwards.
